Tired

I'm 76 Except for brief period in the 50's when I was doing my National Service, I've worked hard since I was 17. Except for some serious health challenges, I put in 50-hour weeks, and didn't call in sick in nearly
40 years. I made a reasonable salary, but I didn't inherit my job or my income, and I worked to get where I am. Given the economy, it looks as though retirement was a bad idea, and I'm tired. Very tired.

I'm tired of being told that I have to "spread the wealth" to people who
don't have my work ethic. I'm tired of being told the government will take
the money I earned, by force if necessary, and give it to people too lazy
to earn it.

I'm tired of being told that Islam is a "Religion of Peace," when every day I can read dozens of stories of Muslim men killing their sisters, wives and
daughters for their family "honor"; of Muslims rioting over some slight offense; of Muslims murdering Christian and Jews because they aren't
"believers"; of Muslims burning schools for girls; of Muslims stoning teenage rape victims to death for "adultery"; of Muslims mutilating the genitals of little girls; all in the name of Allah, because the Qur'an and
Shari'a law tells them to.

I'm tired of being told that out of "tolerance for other cultures" we must let Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries use our oil money to fund mosques and madrassa Islamic schools to preach hate in Australia New Zealand, UK, America and Canada, while no one from these countries are allowed to fund a church, synagogue or religious school in Saudi Arabia or any other Arab country to teach love and tolerance..

I'm tired of being told I must lower my living standard to fight global warming, which no one is allowed to debate.

I'm tired of being told that drug addicts have a disease, and I must help support and treat them, and pay for the damage they do. Did a giant germ rush out of a dark alley, grab them, and stuff white powder up their noses or stick a needle in their arm while they tried to fight it off?

I'm tired of hearing wealthy athletes, entertainers and politicians of all parties talking about innocent mistakes, stupid mistakes or youthful mistakes, when we all know they think their only mistake was getting caught. I'm tired of people with a sense of entitlement, rich or poor.

I'm really tired of people who don't take responsibility for their lives and actions. I'm tired of hearing them blame the government, or discrimination or big-whatever for their problems.

I'm also tired and fed up with seeing young men and women in their teens and early 20's be-deck themselves in tattoos and face studs, thereby making
themselves un-employable and claiming money from the Government.

Yes, I'm damn tired. But I'm also glad to be 76. Because, mostly, I'm not going to have to see the world these people are making. I'm just sorry for
my granddaughter and her children. Thank God I'm on the way out and not on the way in.
( From an email I agree with every word This was supposedly said by Bill Cosby)

Blogcation

My boy has traveled home for a visit. He moved to Australia almost 8 years ago and this is his first trip home. He brought his lady friend Jude and this is her first visit to the cold and first time to see snow.  She is in love with our prices and stores.  This is not new to my boy. But he says it is a welcome relief from the constant heat of Australia.  They will be here for 3  weeks or so. There is a 14 hour time difference so they are working on flipping their days and nights. My blogging will be hit and miss while they are here. Did I mention how very happy I was to see him and how handsome he is?  Yep my boy is home to see his mom.  I am a happy mom.

We need more parents like this one

5 on Friday

  1. What annoys you most about technology? Keeping track of my passwords and when you go to close a word program and it asks do you want to save changes and you haven’t made any changes, do you push yes or no?
  2. Are you proud of where you are living? Why? I am very proud of where I am living, it is a historical home, it used to be a hotel and was built during the Civil War.
  3. If you could start doing one thing today that would make this world a better place, what would you do and why? Do you mean without going to jail?
  4. Do you think a politician can solve important problems? Why or why not? Uh no, they created them.
  5. What is the theme song for the movie that is being made about your life? Not sure but I would want Garth Brooks or Cee lo Green sing it.

Famous last words…

"Computers in the future may weigh no more than 1.5 tons." -- Popular Mechanics, forecasting the relentless march of science, 1949

"I think there is a world market for maybe five computers." --Thomas Watson, chairman of IBM, 1943

"I have traveled the length and breadth of this country and talked with the best people, and I can assure you that data processing is a fad that won't last out the year." --The editor in charge of business books for Prentice Hall, 1957

"But what is it good for?" -- Engineer at the Advanced Computing Systems Division of IBM,1968, commenting on the microchip.

"640K ought to be enough for anybody." -- Bill Gates, 1981

This 'telephone' has too many shortcomings to be seriously considered as a means of communication. The device is inherently of no value to us,"-- Western Union internal memo, 1876.

"The wireless music box has no imaginable commercial value. Who would pay for a message sent to nobody in particular?" -- David Sarnoff's associates in response to his urgings for investment in the radio in the 1920s.

"The super computer is technologically impossible. It would take all of the water that flows over Niagara Falls to cool the heat generated by the number of vacuum tubes required." -- Professor of Electrical Engineering, New York University

"I don't know what use any one could find for a machine that would make copies of documents. It certainly couldn't be a feasible business by itself." -- the head of IBM, refusing to back the idea, forcing the inventor to found Xerox.

And last but not least...
"There is no reason anyone would want a computer in their home." -- Ken Olson, president, chairman and founder of Digital Equipment Corp., 1977

Time Saver

np_115

I am so grateful that somebody finally invented hot dogs already in the bun, because I just don't know how much longer I could have survived the old routine of opening not only the hot dog package, but also the bun package, and then going through the whole rigmarole of trying to fit the hotdog into the bun. Talk about a time saver! It's reassuring to know that, on my death bed, I will no longer be grieving for the handful of minutes I would've given up over the course of my life, had I continued to make microwave hotdogs the conventional way. Just think of the moments I will save by not needing to fumble with twist-ties! Yes, it's true. The world is now a better place.

And also: dear lord--what is this world coming to?!?

Birthday

I am writing this on my Birthday. OMG. I am celebrating my 49th annual 21st birthday. I don't stress out about my age. I'm old. I'm just happy to be here and I'll take every wrinkle and gray hair that comes my way because it means I'm still alive. I think of it this way "these lines across my face, they tell the story of who I am. But I am not writing this to complain about my circumstances. I am at peace with that. One of the blessings of this age is the ability to study, really study, commercials. I love the one that features an “older” woman, who happily celebrates her ability to drink large amounts of water and drive long distances, with out stopping to ..well you know pee. Is this my future? Is this all there is? Any how it is almost my birthday and I am going to go off and suck on my inhaler so that when the time comes to blow out all my candles on my cake, I can do so with out hacking up a lung.

5 on Friday

1. What do you think about the tradition of Ground Hogs day?

I think Punxsutawney Phil pulled his fat, lazy, works-one-day-a-year ass out of his burrow this morning and locked eyes with his shadow. 6 more weeks of winter. Happy Bill Murray Day.

2. What is your favorite afternoon snack?

I am not really a snack person, I am more like a grazer, you know eating all the time. I am a salty sour person. So BBQ chips, popcorn, or something else salty. I do enjoy dark chocolate from time to time.

3. How is your winter mood holding up?

Well since I can’t just sleep till mid May, and there is nothing much I can do to change that fact, I would say it is pretty much the same as any other time of the year. You know .. sorta grumpy.

4. What are your thoughts about the upcoming election?

I think I will be glad when it is all over with and the dust has settled. I don’t think the answer to the problem is easy and I don’t think it is keeping those already in office. I am very concerned for the young people of this country and the burden they will have.

5. What is your biggest internet aggravation?

Keeping all my passwords straight, ugh! I keep a book with them all in it, and it started out all neat and tidy, and now it is a mess.

I am...

...busy, tired and probably a little depressed, but also hopeful and optimistic.

...sarcastic, but I like to think my sarcasm becomes me.

...lucky to have a wonderful family and fabulous friends.

...looking forward to spring

...excited to be here.

...sick of eating the same thing over and over.

...thinking of getting a new hairstyle.

...waiting for Spring.

...in desperate need of a muse.

...feeling nostalgic. I always feel nostalgic this time of year always feels like a chance for a new beginning, and I kind of miss that. Although nothing ever turned out as I imagined it would. Nothing ever turns out as I imagine it will. That's all part of the mystery of life, I guess.

...always curious about what might have been and what's to come.

...fascinated by bright lights and shiny objects.
