I love Jeff Foxworthy

Here is what Jeff Foxworthy has to say about Indiana...
If your local Dairy Queen is closed from September through May, you may live in Indiana.
If someone in a Home Depot store offers you assistance and they don't even work there, you may live in Indiana.
If you've worn shorts and a jacket at the same time, you may live in Indiana. If you've had a lengthy telephone conversation with someone who dialed a wrong number, you may live in Indiana.
If "vacation" means going anywhere south of Fort Wayne for the weekend, you may live in Indiana.
If you measure distance in hours, you may live in Indiana.
If you know several people who have hit a deer more than once, you may live in Indiana.
If you have switched from 'heat' to 'A/C' in the same day and back again, you may live in Indiana.
If you can drive 75 mph through 2 feet of snow during a raging blizzard without flinching, you may live in Indiana.
If you install security lights on your house and garage, but leave both doors unlocked, you may live in Indiana.
If you carry jumpers in your car and your wife knows how to use them, you may live in Indiana.
If the speed limit on the highway is 55 mph -you're going 80 and everybody is passing you, you may live in Indiana.
If driving is better in the winter because the potholes are filled with snow, you may live in Indiana.
If you know all 4 seasons: almost winter, winter, still winter and road construction, you may live in Indiana.
If you have more miles on your snow blower than your car, you may live in Indiana.
If you find 10 degrees "a little chilly", you may live in Indiana.
If you actually understand these jokes, you definitely do live - or have lived - in Indiana..........just saying.

5 on Friday

1. What's a song you'd enjoy screaming along to as you drove down the highway?
Forget You, Calling all my girls, most any song from Chicago  and Popular from Wicked, to name just a few.

2. What is your favorite place/type of environment
to relax?

At home, sitting in my easy chair.

3. What are the best kind of dreams?
The kind that make me feel happy for the rest of the day.

4. What do you look for in a mate?
I'm not looking anymore, been there done that twice..

5. If you were a crayon color, what color would you be and why?
I'd be periwinkle, because It's a pretty color blue and it's an awesome word. Just saying it is fun!

What is the most annoying habit a person can have?

Here is my list .. what would you add?

spitting
eating with your mouth open
People who can never admit they are wrong or can never apologize

Chewing tobacco

Sometimes just breathing

Pompous rude people who have  irrational opinions and never listen to reason.

I hate the sound of teeth scraping on a fork!!!!

Chomping on a piece of gum like its cow cud!

Thoughts today.

  • I am not admitting how many times this month I have aimed the phone at the television and cussed when the channel didn't change.
  • I stopped watching the news three weeks ago.
  • My inability to suffer fools increases daily.
  • Have you noticed how many fools there are these days?
  •  Can someone explain the phenomenon where your nose begins to itch horribly as soon as you stick your hands in dishwater?

5 on Friday

1. What is the best dessert you've ever had?
Really good cheesecake, and I love Lemon Meringue Pie.
2. Is there a dessert that just plain grosses you out?
Fried bananas. Bananas were never meant to be hot, and mince meat pie.. ewww
3. Straight out of the container or with lots of toppings .... tell us how you like your ice cream.
Right outta the carton - though if I am being bad, hot fudge and sprinkles, lots of cool whip.
4. Cookie dough, brownie mix, cake batter or the finished products?
Both! one of the best parts of cooking desserts is eating the mix/batter along the way
5. You've just invented a great new dessert .... what's in it and what is it called?
It's calorie free/fat free ice cream that has lots of caramel and chocolate and it's freakin delicious!

Things I am thinking about today.

1.  It’s far more impressive when others discover your good qualities without you having to tell them.
2.  What you do every day is more important than what you do once in a while.
3.   However good or bad a situation is, it will change.
4.   Be okay with eliminating negative people from your life.
5.   Find a hobby. Everyone needs to create something.
6.   Always wear awesome underwear. It’s hard to have a bad day when you’re rocking cool panties.
7.   Forgive your parents. No matter how messed up you think they were. They did what they knew how to do at the time. After 21, it’s time for you to take responsibility of your own life.
8.   Beware of permanent solutions to temporary problems.
9.   Be a blessing.
10.  Be nice to ninjas. It’s always better to have them on your side

Rhetoric

So gas prices are on the rise again. They're holding pretty steady around $3.50/gallon in these parts. $3.50/gallon--can you believe that? I remember when I was first driving, prices were much closer to $.35 per gallon. I'm absolutely certain that I've paid way less than a dollar per gallon for gas since I've been driving. I can remember filling up  circa 2000 for $.999/gal. That wasn't that long ago--not long enough to justify a $2+ dollar increase. But I digress. So, as I was saying, gas prices are on the rise again--bitch, bitch, moan, moan, grumble, grumble. Who the hell wants to pay $3.50/gallon for gas?!? Then comes the announcement: gas prices expected to reach $4/gallon in the next few months, and, oh my god, we're so lucky to only be paying $3.50 now! See, it's all about the spin.

Out of the mouths of Babes

We who have taught, or love children who have been taught, know this is funny!
From the diary of a Pre-School Teacher...

My five-year old students are learning to read.
Yesterday one of them pointed at a picture in a zoo book and said,
"Look at this! It's a frickin' elephant!"

I took a deep breath, then asked... "What did you call it?"

"It's a frickin' elephant! It says so on the picture!"
And so it does...

"A f r i c a n Elephant"

Hooked on phonics! Ain't it wonderful?
Now that's funny, I don't care who you are!

I love Maxine

5 on Friday

1. At what age do you think it's appropriate for someone to get their driver's license?
Personally, I think eighteen is a good age. It's how old I was when I got my first. But I also understand that kids living in rural areas need to drive to get around and their parents or older siblings/relatives aren't always available to give them rides. So maybe a conditional driver's license is appropriate for drivers 16-17, with stipulations that cars be used for school and home, and times when the license can be used. I believe it's being tried in some states.
2. At what age do you think it's appropriate for someone to first drink alcohol?
Because kids can do everything else at the age of 18, I think the drinking age should go back to it. It's insane that young adults can fight (and die) in a war at 18, but have to wait until they're 21 to drink. If you're going to keep the drinking age at 21, then raise the legal adult age to 21.

 3. At what age do you think it's appropriate for someone to become sexually active?
When they feel they're ready to be a parent, and no sooner. *Shrugs* Personally, I think 18 is a good age  for that. Still, comprehensive sex education taught at school and home and covering all bases including feelings and emotions, must be mandatory.
4. At what age do you think it's appropriate for someone to vote in elections affecting national and/or local government?
I'd like to see 16- and 17-year-olds voting in elections. It's a great way to become involved in their communities, helping to make decisions that will affect their futures.
5. At what age do you think it's appropriate for someone to be conscripted for military service?
A tough one,  I'd like to see them raise the maximum age for enlistment, as there are many people out of work, to maybe 50 (older enlistees can serve in non-combat roles). I'd also like to see single parents (raising children alone) enlisted in the military serve their duties at home, where they can be with their children. But the minimum enlistment age can remain at 18.
